Repeat Prescriptions

💊 We try to deal with prescription requests in a timely manner, but please allow 72 hours for your repeat prescription request to be processed and sent electronically to your nominated pharmacy.

At Huntcliff Surgery, there are 4 ways to order your repeat medications:

2. Patient Online Access

Patients can order prescriptions online via the link at the top of this page.

To register for this service:

  • You will be required to complete an on-line access form. When you hand the completed form in to the surgery you will also be required to show address confirmation such as a utility bill and also photo ID, such as a passport or photo driving licence to a member of the administration team at Huntcliff Surgery.
  • You will then be issued with an access code and registration instructions.

3. Paper Requests

We have a letterbox outside of the surgery's reception. There are two ways prescriptions may be requested via this method:

1 - using the counterfoil of paper prescriptions (FP10), you can tick the requested medications for the list of your repeats shown here.

2 - submitting a handwritten request. If using this method, please ensure you include your name, date of birth, and address on the request, ensure writing is legible and include both the name and dose of the medication.

This method is less favourable than the app or online access as it can take longer to process and there is a greater risk of delay or error if all of the relevant information is not provided.

4. Telephone Prescription Line

Available between 10am and 12 noon

This option is reserved for patients who cannot use the other methods. We anticipate this to be a small cohort of patients.

We kindly discourage phone requests where possible because:

  • Poor signal or background noise can make it hard to hear clearly
  • Medication names can be difficult to spell or pronounce
  • Verbal requests are harder to verify and are more prone to transcription errors

Prescription Fees

These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.

  • Prescription (per item): £9.90
  • 12-month prepayment certificate (PPC): £114.50
  • 3-month PPC: £32.05

If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months or more than 14 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC.

  • Telephone advice and order line 0845 850 0030
  • General Public - Buy or Renew a PPC online

There is further information about prescription exemptions and fees on the NHS website.

Help with NHS costs

In England, around 90% of prescription items are dispensed free. This includes exemptions from charging for those on low incomes, such as:

  • those on specific benefits or through the NHS Low Income Scheme
  • those who are age exempt
  • those with certain medical conditions
  • More information is available at NHS Choices
